Sept 2024 project

About the Project

At Coventry University, the Research Centre for Fluid and Complex Systems (FCS) is pushing back research boundaries and delivering real-world solutions to complex fundamental and applied challenges.

Project details

FCS brings together almost 60 leading applied mathematicians, statistical physicists, experimentalists, theoreticians, and specialists in scientific computing, with a focus on measuring and predicting complex fluid/plasma dynamics in real systems.

We are pleased to announce a four year PhD studentship in Astrophysical and Geophysical Fluid Dynamics funded by Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC).

Applications are invited from ambitious and self-motivated candidates to work on a broad range of exciting topics in astrophysical and geophysical fluid dynamics, including: solar rotation, convection and evolution, solar flares/sunspots, accretion disks, planetary dynamics, magnetohydrodynamic turbulence, the generation of magnetic fields (dynamos), reconnection and Alfven waves.

Funding

Fully-funded (Tuition fees, stipend)

Benefits

The successful candidate will receive comprehensive research training including technical, personal and professional skills.

All researchers at Coventry University (from PhD to Professor) are part of the Doctoral College and Centre for Research Capability and Development, which provides support with high-quality training and career development activities.
