The Power Conversion Rotating Machines Rugby Engineering Team is responsible for the design and engineering of motors and generators to deliver optimised system solutions in line with the requirements of the wider GEPC business units such as Industry, Marine and Naval.

Reporting to the Head of Engineering, the Generator Project Leader will technically lead a special generator program and team being responsible for overall technical compliance of the generator design and production to its requirements, required timescales and cost and for demonstrating a high level of design assurance ensuring all customer documentation related to the generator is delivered on time.

The RM Generator Lead will be responsible for the design of all generator planned prototypes and working with external suppliers of key components.Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

  • Lead a team to execute the design, analysis, and delivery of a generator on a on special project using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements.
  • Includes direct people management responsibility including staffing and performance development. Utilizes in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline and analytical thinking and technical experience to execute policy/strategy.
  • Uses some judgment and has some ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters to address more complicated manufacturing processes with technical variety and/or interdependent production cycles. Uses technical experience and analytical thinking. Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own teams to arrive at decisions.
  • Support the collaborative pre-contract technical specification collaboration phase
  • Own the generator specifications and requirements and define V&V activities for each for final acceptance.
  • Ensure that product requirements and specifications are correctly implemented in the design.

  • Ensure that the mechanical design team for the generator appropriately support the documentation, evaluation and analysis of all materials ensuring that key design features necessary for integrity are correctly captured in the design and verified
  • Experience in Reliability, Maintainability & ILS

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Significant experience in leading a mechanical or electrical engineering team.
  • Significant knowledge of Multi-Megawatt rotating machines products, their engineering challenges and manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of rotor dynamics, thermodynamics, N&V and CFD
  • Experience in planning and scheduling resource and activities.
  • Experienced in engineering design processes and tools and functional safety engineering
  • Significant experience with Ansys and CreO 3D CAD modelling software.
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office 2010+ applications.
  • Experience of BOM creation and BOM structures.
  • Knowledge of Teamcenter PLM system is an advantage
  • Flexible approach, willing to work extended hours and travel as and when required.
