As programme planner in property services at local authority, you'll be part of a service that builds, develops and maintains thousands of schools, libraries, nursing homes, country parks and more, shaping everyday life and delivering public value across the county. The programme planner role sits in the pipeline & programmes team in property services. Our team of qualified programme managers, planners and project managers bring their experience of shaping and managing multi-million pound Property related programmes to ensure projects and programmes are delivered through a one team integrated approach. The team works alongside our clients to scope projects and programmes that will deliver construction related outputs to meet and exceed expectations. Property programmes include capital construction, maintenance, as well as transformation programmes. Day-to-day, this role involves developing and maintaining multiple project programmes and master programmes, in MS Project, through liaison and co-ordination with project teams to capture progress and forward plan for successful delivery. Using your experience, as well as team benchmark data, you will give advice on design, procurement and construction timelines. You will be in a unique position to ensure knowledge transfer and learning between projects. When necessary, you will facilitate process mapping or collaborative planning sessions. Using master programmes, you will inform, across a portfolio of projects, understanding of issues and opportunities in relation to governance, risk management, client management and resource mapping across the service. The successful candidate will have a strong track record of delivering projects and programmes within a multi-disciplinary environment, in a collaborative working style, either as a planner, design manager or project manager. They will have well developed interpersonal skills enabling them to build effective relationships with clients and officers at all levels of the client, as well as external client organisations, allowing them to provide constructive challenge and support. Professional status and a relevant degree (or equivalent) are both desirable. However, it is the scale and scope of your planning software skills, plus construction and multi-discipline design team experience that will mark you out. An effective planner who excels at both the strategic and practical aspects of project and programme delivery, you will bring a strong facilitation approach to developing the key relationships that are essential to the success of your programmes.

You'll need to have:

  • Exposure of working as a Primavera P6 project planner on large scale complex construction projects ideally for a tier 1 contractor or a client side consultancy.
  • A construction related degree (civil/structural engineering, or construction/project management or equivalent).
  • Digitally savvy, can build lasting client relationships and lead strong, motivated teams.
  • Experience of working on large projects/programmes.
  • A construction or project management background and be hungry to grow your career and enjoy the opportunities Mace have to offer.

  • Mentoring and upskilling of inexperienced planners
  • Implementation of planning principles within the project management community

  • Experienced P6 user (P6 pro).
  • Familiarisation with P6 EPPM (Web) – for config management.
  • Management of large data sets into simple reporting formats, through coding and layout manipulation.
  • Baseline control and config.
  • Schedule import and export.

You'll also have:

  • NEC/JCT/D&B/CM
  • Construction – living accommodation, offices, workshops, sports facilities, associated infrastructure.
  • Familiarisation with other planning software – Microsoft Project, Asta Power Project.
  • Schedule risk analysis (QSRA).
  • P6 configuration management – user access, OBS creation and management, user profiles, OBS assignation.
  • Set up and use of resources – future project not yet required.
  • Use of P6 for EVM – future project not yet required.
  • Membership of APM, RICS, CIOB, ICE, AACE, IRM, IEMA or equivalent demonstrable professional or personal development.
  • Deep property or infrastructure project management expertise.
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen.
  • Leadership and management experience of large, diverse teams.
  • Experience of managing relationships with key senior stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of how carbon and sustainability considerations will shape the outlook of the projects you are working on.
