Oxford, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom University of Oxford Full time

We are seeking a High-Speed Research Engineer to join the Hypersonics research group at the Department of Engineering Science (Oxford Thermofluids Institute). This is a full-time post, for a fixed-term for 12 months.

The hypersonics group undertakes cutting edge experimental research into high-speed flows, predominantly utilising Oxford's renowned wind tunnels; T6 Stalker Tunnel, High Density Tunnel and the Low Density Tunnel. The successful applicant will work closely with the wind-tunnel team, post-doctoral researchers and graduate students to support a range of engineering and scientific projects. The Research Engineer will provide assistance in design and development of the group's core infrastructure, including improvements to enhance the capabilities of the wind-tunnels, as well as supporting test programmes through the design and preparation of experimental models, calibration of sensors, carrying out basic experiments, and the processing of technical data.

You should possess an undergraduate degree in a relevant field and/or relevant experience in operation of wind tunnel facilities. Previous experience in both mechanical engineering design and fundamental flow measurements. You should have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work on a collaborative project. Good organisational skills and the ability to communicate scientific ideas to an expert audience are also required.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Prof. Matthew McGilvray

Only applications received before midday on the 6th September 2024 can be considered. You will be required to upload a covering letter, a brief statement of research interests (describing how past experience and future plans fit with the advertised position), CV and the details of two referees as part of your online application.
