Applications are invited for the role of School Research Grant Advisor within the School of the Humanities and Social Sciences.
The Role
This post is primarily dedicated to supporting research grant administration in the Faculty of Education, whilst also supporting other institutions across the School of the Humanities and Social Sciences as part of a wider, flexible team of School Research Grant personnel.
This is a newly created role that provides an excellent opportunity for both experienced line managers as well as those looking to take initial steps into first line management, to take a leading role in supporting excellence in research grant administration across the School of the Humanities and Social Sciences.
The School Research Grant Advisor provides expert support and guidance to Principal Investigators (PIs) and Faculty based research staff, with an outcome of timely, accurate and risk-mitigated research grant applications. The role holder works in collaboration with PIs and project support staff to enable effective and efficient grant management of active research grants across the School.
The successful applicant will join a team of experienced research grant personnel, working collaboratively across the School of the Humanities and Social Sciences.
The School Research Grant Advisor will:
- Manage a team of three School Research Grant Assistants, with supervisory support across the wider team and deputisation for the Senior School Research Grant Administrator, providing a key point of support and elevation for the research team, School Office, and School Institutions
- Working closely with the Finance Team in the Faculty, provide financial and administrative support and guidance across the full grants lifecycle to academic, research and administrative staff, using the CUFS and Cognos systems, to enable effective and efficient grant management.
- Support the timely submission of accurate, well costed research grant applications in the X5 / Worktribe system, by providing expert support and guidance to the research team and by developing key relationships with the Research Operations Office and AHSS Research Facilitation Team.
- Be an excellent communicator with the confidence to relate to a wide range of people and to be an effective team player with a flexible approach.
- Possess high level organisation and prioritisation skills, with the ability to take initiative and prioritise a varied workload to meet deadlines.
Although experience in a research specific role is advantageous, applications from individuals with transferable skills are welcome, since full training in research grant systems and processes will be provided, where required.
The University is supportive of hybrid working, where some work is undertaken on University premises and some in a remote working environment. The aim of our approach is to enable as many staff as possible to work in a hybrid way if they wish and where their role allows. This arrangement is subject to change and will not form a part of the contractual terms of the role.
This is a full-time role, based at the Faculty of Education, Hills Road, and the SHSS School Office at 17 Mill Lane. Hours and working pattern can be discussed at interview.
Closing date for Applications is Sunday 18th August 2024. Interviews will be held 29th August 2024.
We welcome applications from individuals who wish to be considered for flexible working arrangements.
The University actively supports equality, diversity and inclusion and encourages applications from all sections of society.
