Wrexham, Wrexham, United Kingdom National Trust Full time

This is an exciting role if you have marketing and communications experience and are looking to develop your career with a high-profile charitable organisation.

We are looking for an enthusiastic marketing and communications person to join our team for a fixed term, until May 2025, at the North-East Wales portfolio which includes Erddig and Chirk Castle. As Senior Communications and Marketing Officer, you'll promote what we do, across the full marketing mix - through social media, web content and media relations - both creatively and effectively.

What it's like to work here

Widely acclaimed as one of Britain's finest historic properties, Erddig is an unpretentious country house surrounded by a 1,200-acre country park. The expansive grounds take in a 13.5-acre walled garden, natural play areas and restored Victorian glasshouses, making Erddig the ideal property for those who love the great outdoors. The varied programme of events at Erddig includes live music and outdoor theatre. With many long-term staff and returning seasonal workers, Erddig's close-knit team is a joy to be part of.

The magnificent Chirk Castle is situated on a sweeping 480-acre estate on the Welsh border and is brimming full of 700 years' worth of history. The property offers a superb visitor welcome, and the 29 strong team welcome people with superb customer service skills to help bring to life the castle's powerful story. The property offers a lively and diverse programme of events, and the development of the wider parkland is one of the exciting upcoming projects due to take place. People travel in either by public transport or car.

What you'll be doing

You will work as part of the Visitor Experience team for the North-East Wales Portfolio reporting to the Experiences & Visitor Programming Manager.

By connecting people to our places, you will reach audiences through creating content for our website, engaging social media and targeted email marketing, as well as identify and share news-worthy stories with the media and our partners. You'll help to achieve our business and charitable targets by driving the marketing and communication plan.

This will include helping to define our advertising activities and creating promotional materials and updates (across all media platforms, including social media and our website as well as onsite marketing), writing and distributing press releases and representing us on location filming and broadcast media when required.

Overall, it's a diverse and challenging role and a great step for those wanting to gain experience in communications and marketing.

Who we're looking for

You'll have a creative flair, with excellent written skills, to deliver great content to feed into our digital and social media channels, linking our visit driving work with our conservation purpose as a charity.

Ideally, you'll have experience of working in the heritage or conservation industry though not essential.

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

  • Practical experience in a marketing and communications role
  • Experience of developing and implementing marketing and communications plans
  • Proven track record in creating, using and editing content in different channels (web, social media, PR, email)
  • Ability to spot potential risks to reputation and escalate them accordingly
  • Have excellent interpersonal and networking skills, with the ability to influence, advise and negotiate at all levels within the organisation and with external agencies
  • Strong understanding of the importance of online presence and ways to promote visits to our website and social media channels
  • A creative approach to reaching both new and existing audiences
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Advanced IT Skills (including Microsoft Office)
