Applications are invited for the post of Clinical Fellow Higher (ST3-5/ST6+/Senior) in Hepatology and Liver Transplantation at Addenbrookes Hospital, part of Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

This is a 12 months post available from 05 March 2025 to 03 March 2026.

Main duties of the job

This post is geared towards furthering a career in Hepatology and Liver Transplantation. This is available to applicants who are within or beyond Gastroenterology/Hepatology training who are either:

(1) keen to undertake preliminary research prior to obtaining external funding towards a higher degree (out of program research: OOPR);

or

(2) want time out of program to pursue a clinical interest (out of program experience: OOPE),

or

(3) who are at the end of training and want post-CCT experience in tertiary Hepatology and Liver Transplantation.

Please note that these posts do not carry Postgraduate Dean's approval or training recognition.

Full Registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council at time of application is required.

The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC's Good Medical Practice Non-UK applicants must possess the IELTS/OET exam before obtaining a GMC licence to practice.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post could be extended subject to satisfactory progress particularly if undertaking research. For applicants keen to use these posts as a prelude for OOPR it is important that they research the potential projects on offer and contact the relevant leads of those projects. These can be found on our website. Applicants who are wanting to use this as a means to research will not be considered for these posts without a project.

A breadth of learning opportunities are available, depending on the applicant's preference. These include Tertiary Hepatology, Liver Transplantation, Research or Management (chief residency program) . The Department undertakes basic, translational and clinical research in alcoholic hepatitis, HCC, NASH, cholangiocyte biology and PBC in partnership with the University of Cambridge and Cambridge NIHR Biomedical Research Centre. The successful candidates would all contribute to the Hepatology on call rota.

These posts are not normally accredited as part of a speciality training programme but could be used for purposes as stated above.
