About the Role

Base Location: Flexible UK | We're proud to offer a Flexible First approach to work, and this role is no exception. We will, however, need your base 'home' location to be one of our SSE offices or depots around the UK, which include but are not limited to Glasgow, Perth, Reading or London.

Salary: £ Competitive depending on experience + car / allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available

What is the Role?

Join our Solar & Battery business as a Head of Development and take charge of our ambitious growth projects from inception to construction. You will develop strategies, oversee project development, manage key stakeholder relationships, and lead a team in refining project scope up to investment decision, fostering a culture of safety and innovation throughout.

Manage development activities for renewable energy projects, ensuring they move from early stages to construction readiness efficiently and safely.

Develop strategies and manage the development pipeline to meet targets aligned with business strategy and deliver shareholder value.

Lead and allocate resources effectively to advance project development, focusing on acquisitions and partnerships for utility-scale projects.

Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to maintain our position as a preferred partner in the renewable energy sector.

Ensure project compliance with technical, commercial, and environmental standards; prepare and refine projects for final executive approval.

What do I need

To succeed in this role, you will need:

Considerable experience in business development, specifically within the energy sector.

Proven expertise in managing and developing multidisciplinary project teams across complex portfolios.

Familiarity with and ability to develop business cases and funding solutions from conceptual stages to full financial investment.

Strong relationship building skills with a track record of influential stakeholder engagement both internally and externally.

In-depth knowledge of energy infrastructure development including grid connections, land arrangements, planning, and energy market dynamics.
