Applications are invited for two highly skilled Media and Communications Officers to support the advancement of the University's media presence and reputation. Candidates will be adept at managing comprehensive media campaigns, fostering relationships with media outlets at home and overseas, and creating impactful content across various internal and external platforms. This role demands strategic vision, creativity, and a deep understanding of media dynamics.

Candidates should be educated to degree level in a related subject or have demonstrable equivalent experience. Applicants will have experience of producing and placing news coverage and possess proven ability to write 'media-friendly' stories.

The successful candidate will be expected to commence as soon as possible.

The ability to communicate in Welsh is essential for this post.

This role will be located on campus at Bangor. Through our Dynamic Working framework, there will also be the option to spend some time working remotely (although remaining in the UK) to support work life balance, which will be discussed further with candidates at interview.

Purpose of the Job

The successful candidate(s) will be responsible for delivering a wide range of communication activities, including creating news stories, responding to media enquiries, developing online content and social media activity. The postholders will also work on internal communications, in addition to working on a variety of other activities.

Duties will include communicating key messages both internally and externally raising the profile of the University.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing and implementing the University's media relations strategy to enhance its profile regionally, nationally, and internationally.
  • Manage day-to-day media relations activities, including responding to media enquiries and proactively seeking media opportunities.
  • Create and manage content for various external and internal communication channels, ensuring alignment with the University's brand and messaging.
  • Develop and execute media campaigns that showcase the University's academic and research excellence.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key media contacts and influencers.
  • Collaborate with internal departments, including brand, marketing and student recruitment, to ensure integrated communications efforts.
  • Contribute to budget management, ensuring efficient use of resources.
  • Support the Head of Media and Communications in crisis communication management and provide timely and effective responses to emerging issues.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • The post holder will be expected to participate in performance review and developmental activities.
