Level 3 Crown Advocate
Found in: beBee jobs GB - 2 weeks ago
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) is recruiting qualified lawyers for crown advocate roles across England and Wales. If you have experience of criminal trial advocacy and want to advance your skills within a supportive Civil Service organisation, this is an opportunity for you.
About the Crown Prosecution Service
The CPS is responsible for delivering justice through the independent and effective prosecution of crime. As the principal prosecuting authority in England and Wales, the nature and diversity of cases we advise on and prosecute means our work is often emotionally challenging and complex. As such we employ over 7,000 individuals who think objectively, act professionally, show the upmost respect for others and continually strive for excellence.
About the role
As a level 3 crown advocate, you're at the forefront of our work, conducting jury trials and hearings in serious and complex cases. You review and present evidence in prosecutions ranging from motoring to murder, using your advocacy skills to secure the right outcome in every case. You're primarily based in the Crown Court - but may also advise in the magistrates' and youth court, Court of Appeal and straightforward confiscation hearings relating to proceeds of crime.
About you
We're looking for barristers and solicitors with advocacy experience in a range of trials, administrative cases and appeal hearings. You must have higher rights of audience in criminal advocacy and be able to present cases clearly, both verbally and in writing. Strong leadership skills and advanced knowledge of criminal law allow you to persuasively deliver evidence, challenge opposing legal argument and manage complex multi-handed cases. Commitment to public service, a focus on continuous learning, and understanding of our role within the criminal justice system are essential.
About our benefits
At the CPS we pride ourselves on providing benefits that ensure our employees' requirements are central. We want to ensure you can thrive at work and home, offering support to achieve a balance. Our benefits include:
- flexible and hybrid working
- competitive salary
- Civil Service pension with an average employer contribution of 27%
- 25 days' leave, rising to 30 days after 5 years' service, plus bank holidays
- 3 days paid volunteering leave
- 1 extra privilege day for the King's birthday
- £350 a year individual learning budget
- wellbeing support and counselling
- Cycle2work scheme, high street retailer offers and discounts.
Are you looking for a role with real purpose? Take the next step in your legal career and apply today.
