WORKING PATTERN: Hybrid working with 2 days a week in the office

Background:

Founded in 1925, the Leverhulme Trust supports research and education with an annual budget of £120 million, making it one of the UK's largest research funders across all subjects.

Job Purpose:

The Grant Manager for Major Awards oversees pre- and post-award administration of significant grant schemes, focusing on Leverhulme Research Centres, International Professorships, Doctoral Scholarships, and Research Leadership Awards. Existing investment in these schemes is around £200m. Additionally, the Grant Manager will assist the Assistant Director in managing pre-award peer review processes and preparing Trust Board papers.

Key Deliverables:

  • Manage relationships with academia at all levels.
  • Coordinate major Trust awards and assist other grant schemes.
  • Prepare and coordinate papers for the Trust Board and expert panels.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain links with awardees and manage grant rounds.
  • Report to the Trust Board on these schemes, including drafting and oral presentation of papers.
  • Monitor progress on these schemes, including undertaking university and site visits, as appropriate.
  • Assist in pre-award processing and obtaining peer review.
  • Undertake strategy and project work as required.

Communication:

Effective communication with Trustees and academics is essential, including clear writing, confident oral presentations, and proficient use of office IT systems.

Essential Qualifications and Skills:

  • Higher degree, preferably doctorate level.
  • Relevant years of research environment experience.
  • Supervisory or managerial experience.
  • Flexibility, excellent communication and decision-making skills.
  • Good numeracy skills, including the ability to produce statistical data, analyse and interpret financial information, such as post-award budgets and forecasts.
  • Integrity in handling sensitive scientific, personal and financial information
  • Proficiency in IT systems and attention to detail.

Desirable:

  • Postgraduate qualification in a science-related area.
  • Understanding/experience of peer review processes.
  • Experience with grant management and meeting document software.
