About the department

The Quality Assurance (QA) Practice Lead role is situated within our Digital Development function at abrdn. This department plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality and reliability of our software assets that underpin client-facing digital experiences. By setting high standards in software validation and quality assurance, the department ensures that our technology supports robust investment strategies and delivers superior client outcomes.

About the role

The QA Practice Lead is responsible for our software validation capability: overseeing the team, processes, and tools that assure the features, characteristics, and quality of assets delivered by Digital Development. Aligned closely with agile delivery teams and other Practice Leaders, you will lead team line management, governance, and tooling for the QA team. Your role is pivotal in bridging the gap between development, operations, and security, ensuring that security principles are embedded in every phase of the software development lifecycle. You will drive the design and implementation of systems resilient to cyber threats, compliant with financial regulations, and capable of rapid, safe deployment. As the lead, you will advocate for security best practices and oversee the development and maintenance of automated testing, deployment, and scaling infrastructure. Additionally, you will play a crucial role in incident response, swiftly addressing any security breaches or vulnerabilities that arise.

Key Responsibilities:

Establish and maintain standards and governance for software quality assurance. Collaborate with the Architecture team to translate architectural components and behavioural characteristics into concrete technology benchmarks and tests. Document quality assurance methodologies, processes, and conventions to accelerate software delivery across front-end and back-end systems. Evaluate new and emerging technology trends to ensure API delivery capability remains abreast of industry standards. Enhance the practice by ensuring productive, available, and secure tooling and environments for the team. Identify and pursue opportunities for automation to improve delivery cadence, quality, and consistency. About the candidate requirements Experience testing all aspects of distributed web-based systems built with Microsoft technologies and cloud. Proven ability to establish strong working relationships with a range of stakeholders. Familiar with test automation tools. Strong technical communicator able to work with a multi-disciplinary development team to mature working practices Ability to review documentation and identify issues and improvements Ability to utilise a team to solve deep technical problems without necessarily being an expert in the specific area We are proud to be a Disability Confident Committed employer.
