Abbott is about the power of health. For more than 135 years, Abbott has been helping people reach their potential — because better health allows people and communities to achieve more. With a diverse, global network serving customers in more than 160 countries, we create new solutions — across the spectrum of health, around the world, for all stages of life. Whether it's next-generation diagnostics, life-changing devices, science-based nutrition, or novel reformulations, we are advancing some of the most innovative and revolutionary technologies in healthcare, helping people live their best lives through better health.

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Controls Engineer to join and lead our Controls team, a workstream within the Development Engineering group based at our state of the art site in Witney.

The Opportunity:

The Lead Controls Engineer will be responsible for supervising a team of multidisciplined senior engineers in the design, development, implementation of control systems for various industrial processes or automation projects. You will be working in an R&D environment on the latest innovative products and technologies. You will need to collaborate with cross-functional teams including mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, software developers, and project managers to ensure the successful execution of projects. Projects will vary in scale ranging from benchtop proof of principle prototypes to full scale process machinery incorporating PLC, HMI, Motion Control, Vision Systems, Instrumentation and PID control.

The primary focus of your work will involve:

  • Taking a lead role in design, programming, installation, commissioning, debugging and testing of Control Systems used for process machinery or desktop prototypes.
  • Taking fundamental design concepts from initiation through to R&D or production equipment.
  • Leading a small team of skilled engineers, providing guidance and direction, mentoring, and development
  • Working in conjunction with cross functional teams within R&D and Operations to provide state of the art equipment solutions.

About You:

To be successful, you will be degree qualified as a minimum in an Electrical, Electronic or Control Engineering discipline or equivalent. Extensive experience of Siemens PLC control systems, HMI Configuration, and SCADA type systems is essential. You will need to be able to demonstrate proven experience in a related role in which you have designed ground up complex engineering solutions and demonstrated a creative and innovative approach to problem solving. The ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously is key – it's an exciting time of growth here at Abbott and you'll be exposed to a variety of work packages. You will bring leadership skills, ideally from line management, but those with project leading experience will also be considered – we are looking for someone with passion to lead a small team, growing their individual and team success. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in a regulated environment.

What we offer:

In addition to a competitive salary, Abbott offers a highly attractive benefits package which includes a defined-contribution pension scheme, a share ownership scheme, private healthcare, life assurance, and a flexible benefits scheme which you can tailor to your own requirements. Of course, things are a little different right now, but in general, we like to help our employees live life to the fullest, and therefore we offer a range of optional initiatives for you to get involved in, including onsite allotments, couch to 5k campaigns, bee keeping, yoga and more

The successful candidate for this role may be qualified for relocation assistance should they need to relocate to join our team.

Full details will be provided during the recruitment and selection process.
