We are currently seeking experienced Control and Automation Engineers to join our teams in various roles, including leading a small team in our Development Engineering Department and working in our Operations Group, across all aspects of the manufacturing area of the business.

The Opportunity

In these roles, you will work as part of, or lead a team of multidisciplinary senior engineers in the design, development, implementation of control systems for various industrial processes or automation projects. You will be working in an R&D or Operations Engineering environment on the latest innovative products and technologies. You will need to collaborate with cross-functional teams including mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, software developers, and project managers to ensure the successful execution of projects.

The primary focus of your work will involve:

  • Taking a lead role in design, programming, installation, commissioning, debugging and testing of Control Systems used for process machinery or desktop prototypes.
  • Taking fundamental design concepts from initiation through to R&D or production equipment.
  • Leading a small team of skilled engineers, providing guidance and direction, mentoring, and development.
  • Working in conjunction with cross-functional teams within R&D and Operations to provide state-of-the-art equipment solutions.

About You

To be successful, you will ideally be degree qualified as a minimum in an Electrical, Electronic or Control Engineering discipline or equivalent, however proven industry experience backed up by a recognized engineering apprenticeship will be considered. Extensive experience of Siemens PLC control systems, HMI Configuration, and SCADA type systems is essential.

You will need to demonstrate proven experience in a related role in which you have designed ground-up complex engineering solutions and demonstrated a creative and innovative approach to problem-solving. The ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously is key – it's an exciting time of growth here at Abbott Laboratories and you'll be exposed to a variety of work packages. You will bring leadership skills, ideally from line management, but those with project leading experience will also be considered.

Preference will be given to candidates with experience in a regulated environment. Experience working with Oracle database and basic cyber security knowledge would be advantageous. In addition, some knowledge in other programming languages such as C++ or Python could make you stand out from other applicants.

What We Offer

In addition to a competitive salary, Abbott Laboratories offers a highly attractive benefits package which includes a defined-contribution pension scheme, a share ownership scheme, private healthcare, life assurance, and a flexible benefits scheme which you can tailor to your own requirements.

The successful candidate for this role may be qualified for relocation assistance should they need to relocate to join our team. Full details will be provided during the recruitment and selection process.
