Consultant Social Worker

Bridgend, Bridgend county borough, United Kingdom BRIDGEND COUNTY BOROUGH COUNCIL Full time

Consultant Social Worker - Children Social Care

Job description

37 hours per week

Fixed Term up to April 2025

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Social Worker to work alongside our Principal Officer Transformation and support the implementation of a Practice Framework within Bridgend Children Social Care.

Bridgend has recently introduced Signs of Safety as its Practice Framework within Children's Social Care. Signs of Safety is a strength's based, solution focused, safety orientated model of practice. Using the three areas of Signs of Safety – Signs of Well Being for those in need of care and support, Signs of safety for those in need of safeguarding, or signs of success for those who are care experienced, Signs of Safety works on a number of principles with an emphasis on collaboration and co-production with families and Professionals in building safety around the child or young person to prevent escalation, thus reinforcing that every family has strength which is built upon creating family reliance to sustain change and enable families to remain together safely.

To maintain the engagement and commitment from a whole organisation level, further work is needed to ensure the model of practice continues to be developed effectively within teams from an operational level, which includes the ongoing commitment from partner agencies. To fully embed the practice framework at an operation level, we are recruiting a Consultant Social Work post to champion and promote Signs Of Safety model by actively supporting teams and partner agencies to work in this preventative, strengths-based solution focused way in partnership with children, young people and their families.

For this role, you will be a resilient and boundaried practitioner, who is able to work creatively in a sometimes challenging, but rewarding environment. You will work alongside the Principal Officer to support the implementation of Signs of Safety within Children's Social Care to ensure this strengths based, solution focussed practice framework is embedded within the practice in all teams. As a practice expert the post holder will be expected to support the facilitation of peer supervision, as well as providing mentoring and support with visits, case mapping and family meetings. Supporting Social Workers and partner agencies to increase their confidence and skills in using the model of practice.

The successful candidate will work with the Principal Officer to strengthen and develop service wide knowledge and use of Signs of Safety by modelling good practice and collaborative working with children, young people, families, carers and partner agencies. Identifying learning needs within Childrens Social Care and partner agencies, the Consultant Social Worker will assist the Principal Officer in identifying learning opportunities to share this learning throughout, always with the focus being working within a preventive approach with children, young people and their families or carers.

The successful candidate must have significant post qualifying experience and knowledge and experience of Signs of Safety methodology, tools and practice.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the implementation of this well known practice framework. Secondments will also be considered.
