In 2025 Rotherham will become the world's first Children's Capital of Culture, designed and delivered by children and young people aged 0-to-25.

During 2025 there will be 365 days of creative and cultural activity taking place across all 25 wards of our borough – from large-scale public festivals and nationally-renowned touring events visiting Rotherham, to impactful grassroots activities made by, for and with our local communities.

The Marketing and Sales Manager will have overall responsibility for developing and managing the marketing and sales strategy for the programme. The Marketing and Sales Manager will:

  • Develop and deliver high-quality and engaging marketing strategies and campaigns for the Children's Capital of Culture programme, giving the initiative a positive and impactful local, regional, national and international reach.
  • Work collaboratively with the wide range of internal and external partners who are delivering Children's Capital of Culture activities to promote their offer and to effectively showcase and celebrate the achievements of children and young people across our borough.
  • Work closely with the Council's Corporate Communications team on marketing strategies and content, including ensuring that where necessary appropriate approval is given before the distribution of press, print, digital, design, photography, film materials, etc.
  • Develop dynamic, targeted content for a range of communications channels, including print, digital, social media, press, photography and film, to raise awareness of and engagement with these activities, develop new audiences, and promote a positive narrative for Rotherham.
  • Develop innovative new campaigns, including Out-Of-Home marketing, to promote Children's Capital of Culture in dynamic and impactful new ways
  • Commission external agencies and collaborate with them to plan, develop and launch a new Children's Capital of Culture website.
  • Successfully develop and implement corporate sponsorship, commercial sales and fundraising strategies, and other innovative income-generation strategies to support the sustainability and legacy of the programme. This will include managing relationships with key sponsors and partners.
  • Developing a patron programme for Children's Capital of Culture, identifying high-quality, committed and aspirational patrons who can support the programme's delivery and profile. Professionally and positively represent and advocate for Children's Capital of Culture to the local, regional and national media.
  • Support and develop partners – primarily our trainees and their host organisations – to generate dynamic and appropriate content for Children's Capital of Culture communications channels.
  • Commission a pool of freelance photographers, copywriters, videographers and designers to support the creation of dynamic content across a range of communications channels.
  • Work with the Programme Manager and other partners to effectively evaluate and report on our programme delivery, ensuring action research is embedded into programme delivery
  • All other duties as reasonably required, including supporting the delivery of workshops, creative activities, events and festivals that form part of the Children's Capital of Culture programme

    Until 31st March 2026 employees paid at Band D and above are subject to a temporary pay reduction of 1.15% spread out by means of a monthly deduction from each pay period over the full financial year.
