We are currently looking for a Caretaker to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to work in an Education and Training Centre that will be undergoing significant development over the next 2 years. We are looking for a flexible, multi-skilled and energetic individual who will work as part of Centre team as caretaker with the specific aim of ensuring the site is fully functional, safe, secure and well maintained. The successful candidate will be a practical, positive and energetic person who will take pride in maintaining our Centre facilities. Please note that Tir Morfa Centre is open 51 weeks of the year and this post is not term time working.

The main duties of the post:

  • To follow the policies, practices and procedures relating to Health and Safety and the Centre's environment.
  • To attend daily the closing of the premises at designated times and be always responsible for general security. In this connection caretakers may be called out in unsocial hours or at weekends to deal with security problems and allow access for emergency repairs.
  • To oversee, as set out in the Energy Conservation instructions, the efficient working of heating, lighting and water systems.
  • To read meters and test fire alarms as required and maintain approved records.
  • To be aware of the location of all stopcocks, fire points and power services as indicated on the Centre's plans.
  • To clean and to be responsible for the removal of litter from paths, drives and other hard surfaces, within the site grounds and weeding as needed.
  • To clean gullies, guttering's, grates, drains (up to 9 feet) and to wash defaced walls.
  • To undertake routine inspections of the site with a view to carrying out appropriate maintenance and repair work and monitoring the repairs and maintenance schedule – daily.
  • To report to the Responsible Person any defects affecting the health and safety of persons on the site and, when possible, make safe and isolate hazards.
  • To undertake minor repair tasks against the Authority's approved list, including replacement of bulbs and fluorescent tubes up to 6 feet long and starters, up to a height of 11 feet from the floor, but excluding other electrical work. (Note: where appropriate, proper safety equipment to be provided).
  • To keep paths, steps, access points and entrances reasonably free of snow and ice to ensure safe passage.
  • To undertake general maintenance and repairs in reasonable time. This may include simple carpentry, glazing, plumbing and painting.
  • The reporting of defects in buildings, furniture and fittings as required by health and safety regulations or the instructions of the responsible person for the Centre.
  • To undertake certain cleaning duties including emergency cleaning of toilets and spillages as may be required.
  • To carry out security duties and associated duties as applicable.
  • To ensure that all refuse and recycling is disposed of to a designated point and that refuse is put out for collection on a weekly basis.
