We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative Research Fellow to join our dynamic team to establish a new eDNA and Metabarcoding Facility. The successful candidate will undertake research aligned with the University, Centre and School's strategic priorities, and contribute to research-informed teaching and learning. Key Responsibilities:

Research Excellence:

  • Develop and execute high-quality individual and collaborative research projects.
  • Identify and secure future funding sources.
  • Disseminate research findings through high-quality publications and presentations at national and international conferences.
  • Engage with professional bodies, external organizations, and commercial users of academic facilities.

Supervision and Mentorship:

  • Supervise and mentor junior colleagues and postgraduate research students.
  • Provide expert advice in applied genomics, especially eDNA and metabarcoding.
  • Train and provide pastoral care to research students.

Teaching and Learning:

  • Contribute to teaching and learning programs and deliver high-quality teaching.
  • Participate in student experience activities, including open days and student events.

Essential Criteria:

  • PhD or equivalent international qualification in a relevant discipline.
  • Extensive knowledge and research experience in applied genomics, eDNA, and metabarcoding.
  • Proficiency in Illumina and Nanopore technologies and associated software packages.
  • Track record of high-quality research publications and successful grant applications.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to develop and manage innovative research proposals and attract research funding.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Growing national and international reputation in the field.
  • Experience in developing collaborative research networks.
  • Track record of successful research mentorship and supervision.

A current full driving licence (manual transmission) is essential as you will be driving University of Plymouth vehicles.This role is also subject to health surveillance with our Occupational Health team.
