Senior Social Worker

Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom Cambridge County Council Full time

A new opportunity has arisen for a full-time Senior Social Worker post in the Young Adult's Team, for 37 hours a week.

The Young Adults Team is made up of Social Workers and Adult Support Co-ordinators, who work closely in a highly supportive environment, led by a team of 4 Senior Social workers and the Team Manager. Team members have a wealth of experience and knowledge to support ongoing professional development for newer team members. The team benefit from carefully managed caseloads which reflect their experience and skill set. There continues to be a raft of opportunities for joint working with a range of other departments and provider services, which means that no two days are ever the same. There is always something new to learn

The Young Adults Team is a countywide team based at Scott House in Huntingdon. As well as offering a degree of remote working, the Young Adults Team are fortunate to have an office based in the incredible town of Huntingdon with easy access to local shops, restaurants and community facilities. The Young Adults Team support Adults 18-25yrs with a diagnosed learning disability who have an EHC Plan. We are looking for a dynamic, committed and passionate individual who is dedicated to improving the lives of young people, working alongside other professional colleagues to promote the principles of personalisation, encouraging independence, choice and opportunities for young people to develop their independence for adulthood. Occasional out of county travel may be required.

There is some part of the role which involves working alongside Children's services with young people under 18 years to prepare them and their families for adulthood. Candidates will have the ability to support young adults through change, encouraging progression, and acknowledging individual, family and community strengths through a transforming lives approach. The role also includes working alongside Adult Learning Disability services, particularly health colleagues, as well as working closely with Education services. Legal and Court work is a core part of the senior role, particularly in respect to MCA Dols. Senior Social Workers hold a small caseload and line manage 2-3 members of the team. Senior Social Workers are expected to deputise for the Team Manager where needed.

Knowledge and experience of working with people with a learning disability is desirable but not essential. Advanced working knowledge of the Care Act 2014 and Mental Capacity Act is important as well as direct experience in managing safeguarding and complex casework in previous roles. Line management and Court experience will be a significant advantage for the role, but working alongside 3 other experienced Senior Social Workers means there is scope for professional development in this area.

We are a fun, friendly and supportive team who work together in a unique way to improve the lives of the young people we support.
