London, Greater London, United Kingdom Facebook Full time
Reality Labs at Meta is building products that make it easier for people to connect with the ones they love most, enjoy top-notch, wire-free VR, and push the future of computing platforms. We are a team of world-class experts developing and shipping products at the intersection of hardware, software and content. As a Software Engineer on the Reality Labs team at Meta, you can help push the boundaries of how people represent themselves and work, play and connect. Connecting with others is at the heart of the metaverse, and we're the people helping to define what that means. The ideal candidate is a software engineer with experience in VR, physics-based simulation, visualisation or a creative industry expert (e.g. Video Games, Film VFX). You will bring together innovative design with new technologies (related to 3D applications and games). You have a passion for real-time 3D applications, virtual or augmented reality and enjoy rapid iterative development of products or research.

Software Engineer, Metaverse Engine Technology - Animations Responsibilities:

  • Build next-gen tech for real-time mixing of pre-authored animation and body tracking, as well as the tools and pipelines for authoring and editing the animations required for very high quality digital representations of people in complex real-time cross-platform applications.
  • Deliver advanced animation techniques: from proposing an idea to hands-on design and implementation of the most complex core components all the way to productizing for creator workflows.
  • Set a high-quality bar to make our technology easy and delightful for developers to use.
  • Write high-quality, well optimized, and maintainable code.
  • Collaborate with other engineers, product managers, designers, artists, and user researchers to deliver innovative mixed reality and flat-screen products.
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Excellent 3D math and linear algebra skills.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with C++
  • Proven experience in building and shipping features for 3D character animation, physics simulation or mesh processing in the computer graphics industry. Alternatively, we will consider candidates with a lower level of experience but with a PhD in a relevant area.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Solid level knowledge and understanding of real-time animation systems. Experience with character animation technology and pipelines.
  • Understanding of and experience with video game physics.
  • Experience with C# or similar programming languages.
  • Experience delivering AAA Games.
  • Experience with development for virtual reality (Rift, Quest, VIVE, Gear VR, etc.).
  • Experience working across a mixed technology stack that includes C/C++ components.
  • Experience with performance optimization of real-time applications.
  • Strong understanding and sense of empathy for VR users and developers
