We are looking for a senior-level, experienced, and capable colleague to work within L&Q's Sustainability Team, part of L&Q's Governance and Transformation Executive Directorate, specifically Strategy, Planning and Change.

Strategy, Planning and Change oversees the delivery of L&Q's five-year Corporate Strategy, L&Q Future Shape, as well as the development of its successor which will launch in 2026.

The successful candidate will be joining an agile, high-performing and values driven team that not only helps shape strategic thought, but then translates this into delivery so we achieve the best total cost solution for our customers through reliable, consistent, and repeatable products and services.

This team oversees strategy development and delivery, business planning and performance reporting, the groups sustainability efforts to achieve net zero carbon and respond to the risks associated with climate change, manages the group's policy development framework as well as oversee our portfolio and Transformation and Change programmes.

As such, it presents a rare opportunity to shape, influence and work at the very heart of one of the UK largest social enterprises.

We are seeking an individual that is naturally analytical and highly capable of analysing complex programmes and projects, identifying plans, risks, and issues, and translating this information into information that colleagues across the Group can understand.

They should also be experienced in influencing at a senior level, extremely competent at communication and engagement, and able to develop colleagues and teams to their full potential.



They will be responsible for:

  • Building on the work we have done to map our Net Zero Pathways and our assessment of Climate Risk, and leading the development of strategic sustainability programmes and targets across our assets, operations and supply chain
  • Collaborating closely with key stakeholders within our Construction, Property Services, Maintenance and Procurement teams to ensure that programmes are defined and designed and embedded into departmental business plans. Key priorities will be decarbonisation of existing homes and heat networks, improving the embodied carbon and operational energy efficiency of new homes, and collaborating with our supply chain to move towards carbon reductions
  • Providing extensive technical expertise and experience to ensure that plans are deliverable, fully costed through long range plans, and progress is measurable
  • Supporting business teams to mobilise projects and remain an involved subject matter expert to support successful delivery
  • Drafting updates to technical specifications, standards and design guides
  • Managing the work of analysts and consultants where required to ensure modelling and options appraisals are developed and tracked in alignment with net zero targets
  • Keeping abreast of relevant sustainability regulations, preparing briefing notes and impact assessments where required and fostering change across the organisation to adapt to both regulatory change and best practice
  • Ensuring that resident benefit is at the heart of everything we do, and driving forward both innovative and well understood mechanisms to support a fair transition to net zero

We seek an established and experienced senior individual able to use their skills to bring stakeholders and teams together to define and then deliver brilliant outcomes for colleagues and residents alike.


As such, the key skills and experience required include, but are not limited to:

  • Proven track record of designing and developing strategic sustainability plans within construction, asset management and supply chain, exhibiting strong strategic thinking and use of data and modelling to set Key Performance Indicators
  • Strong project management acumen, with experience mobilising and delivering sustainability and decarbonisation programmes, monitoring and reporting progress
  • Proven experience of applying technical sustainability principles within design and construction, energy efficiency and sustainable procurement, with extensive knowledge of standards and methodologies such as LCA, BREEAM and SAP
  • Demonstrable commercial, contract management and financial capability, with the ability to manage multiple complex issues and prioritise effectively
  • Exceptional communication, influencing and coordination abilities, with the ability to develop and nurture strong relationships with stakeholders, bringing individuals from a range of disciplines together to drive forward projects to the desired outcomes
