Inspiring and enthusiastic member of staff required with experience in teaching English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) to our adult students over two evenings. We are looking for a sessional member of staff, with dynamism and passion for ESOL. With a friendly, supportive team, and exceptional College facilities, this is an exciting time to join our growing College.
Applications from teachers in Schools and Sixth Form College sectors are welcome. A full mentoring programme is arranged to introduce all new staff to sixth form college systems and procedures and to support and encourage professional development. We are looking for an exceptional candidate to join the team and inspire our students. We expect high performance from all our staff and candidates should demonstrate their ability and suitability to both the role and the culture of the College.
The Department
The ESOL department consists of a Head of Department, 3 members of teaching staff and 5 sessional teachers, delivering both daytime and evening classes to 16-19 year olds and adult students. The ESOL department provides provision from Entry Level to Level 2 and to a wide range of the community, including Syrian and Ukrainian refugees.
The College's most recent Ofsted (November 2022) rated the Adult Learning programmes as Outstanding, commenting:
"Leaders, managers and staff are rightly proud of the high-quality ESOL courses which successfully improve the life chances of adults in the community. Together they identified the increased number of refugees in the community and skilfully designed a foundation course to help these students develop their skills and confidence. As a result, most quickly progress on the ESOL programme."
"Teachers review ESOL students' written English statements quickly and provide feedback so they are clear on what they have done well and what they need to do to improve. Students repeat these tasks and apply the feedback with confidence which helps them to develop the quality of their written and spoken English."
The College is proud of the skills that the ESOL department provide to students, giving students the confidence to use more accurate grammar and a wider vocabulary, working towards their personal aims and widening their future life choices.
Application Information:College dates: the 2024/2025 academic year starts on Tuesday 27 August 2024 for staff and 16-18 year old student enrolment.
ESOL enrolment: will take place in the first week of September 2024, with classes starting shortly afterwards. Most evening classes are 7pm to 9.15pm (subject to change)
Hourly rate: £31.65 hourly teaching rate
