Sheffield, Sheffield, United Kingdom SOUTH YORKSHIRE MAYORAL COMBINED AUTHORITY Full time

The South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) brings together the local authorities of Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield and to serve the communities and businesses of South Yorkshire. From transport to housing, from business growth to skills, the MCA has a great story to tell. We have ambitions to deliver recovery and renewal for people, businesses and places across South Yorkshire.

Please note that SYMCA follows a structured salary grading system for all roles, and the offered salary for each post will be at the starting point within the specified grade. We value the skills and experience of potential candidates, and there will be opportunities for salary enhancements as you grow within South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority.

Key Responsibilities

We are growing our Transport Strategy and Policy team and as our Assistant Director of Transport Policy and Integration, you will lead SYMCA's Strategic Transport Policy team in the planning, delivery and strategic development of transport policy and strategy, ensuring alignment with wider South Yorkshire policies and priorities. You will also shape and influence pan-northern and national transport developments based on the policies generated.

You will also lead SYMCA's Transport Policy and Integration team in the development of, and driving forward, an integrated transport vision for South Yorkshire. This will include understanding and promoting world-class transport integration best practice, introducing new and innovative modelling and data analysis techniques, and generating practical implementation plans that will deliver positive change for the general public.

You will be a key advocate for SYMCA on a national stage, influencing senior government officials, and being a visible leader for the organisation and region both internally and externally with partners.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

You will have a strong background in developing transport policy. You will have a practical understanding of transport analysis and transport modelling, the development of strategic business cases, implementation plans and funding bids. You will have a proven track record of effective leadership, strategic thinking and change management, including supporting the empowerment of others to take ownership and accountability of outcomes. The role needs both first class strategic transport thinking and an understanding of the practical realities of real world delivery.

With your proven ability of leadership you will work in a collaborative manner with senior colleagues, the elected Mayor and elected Members, local authority colleagues, external partners, community members and other bodies that interact with this role.

The role will also be expected to contribute to the redesign of the team for the short and medium term, ensuring we have the required capacity and capability to secure delivery of our ambitions.

Closing date 31 August
