The Opportunity

Abbott Rapid Diagnostics (formerly Alere) is part of Abbott's Diagnostics family of businesses, bringing together exceptional teams of experts and industry leading technologies. Our in-vitro Diagnostic Assay manufacturing site in Dundee has an exciting opportunity for a Production Technician to join the Dundee Technical Operations department and contribute to our mission of ensuring the on-time production of materials which conform to current best practices and Quality standards.

What You'll Do

  • Production of rare reagents, intermediates and bulk reagents
  • Performing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) transactions as part of works order and inventory management.
  • Taking full accountability for personal workload, ensuring quality documentation is completed to a high standard and mistakes a rectified in a timely manner
  • Work with peers and colleagues to ensure on-time delivery of the production schedule which meets all requirements of both internal and external customers
  • Working to develop comprehensive understanding of products, processes and procedures.
  • Proactively contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and other general housekeeping duties.

Working hours: shift pattern (2 weeks early shift/2 weeks late shift)

Required Qualifications

  • Modern Apprenticeship Level 4/HND/HNC or equivalent and/or
  • SQA Qualification at Advanced Higher/Higher/Nat 5/Nat 4 level in science
  • A demonstrable technical understanding of the function and performance characteristics of the products and materials produced within the Technical Operations environment.
  • A detailed knowledge of production process control procedures and best practices
  • An ability to navigate Electronic Document Management Systems (EDMS) and execute document control procedures.
  • An understanding of and ability to apply Statistical Process Control (SPC) techniques, including generating trend reports.
  • A basic appreciation for Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) costs and how to influence them.
  • An understanding of Corrective and Preventative Action (CAPA) and Change Control principles, with the ability to process records within the respective databases/systems.
  • An ability to employ state-of-the-art Root Cause Analysis (RCA) tools, including A3/DMAIC.
  • An understanding of and ability to contribute to Risk Assessment activities, Risk Management/Control exercises, and Failure Mode Effect Analyses (FMEA).
  • An understanding of Process Validation principles and procedures with the ability to execute.
