An opportunity has arisen for an experienced prosthetic technician to join the prosthetic team based at the TORT Centre in Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.

The prosthetic technician works closely with the prosthetist and leads in the manufacture and maintenance of prostheses for all levels of upper and lower limb amputation. Technicians will be expected to manufacture new prostheses and carry out repairs and modifications to the highest standards. You will provide technical support directly to patients and be required to assist the prosthetist in the fitting of prostheses.

The successful candidate will have significant experience in the field of prosthetics and be competent in the manufacture, repair, and assembly of both modular and conventional prostheses. This will be reinforced by a practical knowledge of manufacture of a range of prostheses, including knowledge of materials and production techniques, use of equipment and specialist tools; acquired through demonstratable training, experience or relevant qualification in a technical subject. An understanding of workshop Health and Safety and working within Quality Management Systems will be necessary for the role.

Competency will be demonstrated at interview through evidence of training, practical workplace experience and relevant qualification in a technical subject.

TORT Services include the Tayside Prosthetic Service, the Assistive Technology Service (Wheelchair and Seating) and the Tayside Orthotic Service. TORT through its constituent specialisations is committed to providing a prompt and clinically appropriate service to enhance the quality of life and independence of people with disabilities through the use of technology.

You will be required to achieve the mandatory Induction standards for Healthcare Support Workers in Scotland and to comply with the Code of Conduct throughout your employment.

Hours of work are: 37.0

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
