About the role:
We are looking for a Head of Department to join our Construction and Building Services programme area. As HOD you will play a pivotal role in the success of the students through:
- Leading the management of all aspects of the operation and development of the Department working within the College's management framework to deliver high quality learning programmes with high levels of student success and an unbeatable student experience
- Proactively contributing to achieving the College's Strategic Plan
- Developing new approaches and curriculum to meet the evolving skills needs of the industry and community.
About you:
Essential
- English and Maths or similar at GCSE grade A-C or equivalent
- Recognised teaching qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed or equivalent)Recent experience of successful and inspirational management/ team leadership in Further Education
- Evidence of high performance in previous roles/jobs
- Knowledge and experience of quality assurance systems in Further Education and Apprenticeships
- Experience of curriculum management, development and improvement to meet targets
- Experience of Ofsted inspections
- Knowledge of current government initiatives and funding in relation to FE,and Apprenticeships and its future and how that may impact on the specific curriculum areas
- Evidence of understanding how to promote equality and diversity within the job role
- Ability to effectively lead and manage a team of professionals
- Ability to consistently support a high quality learning experience for all students
Desirable
- Level 3 or above Qualification related to the Construction Industry
- Management qualification
- Masters level qualification in a relevant discipline
- Experience of managing teams during Ofsted inspections
- Experience of developing cross-college business related provision
- Ability to demonstrate a successful track record of helping teams support students' progress and achievement

About The Bedford College Group
The Bedford College Group was formed in 2017 following the merger of Bedford College and Tresham College and is now the largest provider of education in the South East Midlands, with over 15,000 students passing through our doors each year.
Today, the Group is made up of a family of colleges across Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire: Bedford College, Central Bedfordshire College and Tresham College in the towns of Bedford, Dunstable, Leighton Buzzard, Corby, Kettering and Wellingborough; Shuttleworth College, a specialist land-based college; The Bedford Sixth Form, (the only dedicated sixth form in Bedford); The Corby Sixth Form, (opened in September 2023); and the National College for Motorsport alongside Silverstone race circuit.
