Position Overview:

Vantage is looking for an Assistant Development Manager to join our New Site Development EMEA team, to drive the development of both new and existing data center campuses mainly in South Wales.

The role focusses on pre-construction activities, to assess, de-risk and commercially manage the data center developments, assisting Development Managers in managing these projects through to start on site, and continuously supporting Delivery Directors bringing the development to successful completion.

This position will support the Development Managers and Delivery Directors in market evaluation, site selection, due diligence, initial concept, schematic and entitlement/permitting design and application(s), budget, and schedule for new major projects.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assist Development Team with evaluation and selection of new sites for data center assets, for the purpose of acquiring and developing into a Vantage Data Center property.
  • Support Development Manager(s), Delivery Directors and SME's on aspects of design, engineering, scheduling, and budgeting for new projects including site assessment, risk mitigation, conceptual design, basis of design, scope of work, and development of construction documents.
  • Work closely with the Development Managers and Delivery Directors to ensure design, procurement, permitting and power workstreams are setting up construction and operations for success.
  • Management of information, financing, invoicing, tracking of actions, development of processes, management of SharePoint.

Duties:

  • Assisting Development Managers and Delivery Directors drive developments through the end to end project life cycle, managing scope, schedule and cost with precision control.
  • Drive scope, schedule, and budget decisions to conclusion, during early stage development and support during development delivery, including managing internal and external resources, project teams, contractors and vendors.
  • Support New Site Development in analysing & ensuring sites presented by the Site Selection team are viable as a development in line with regional strategy
  • Ensure lessons learned are held and placed in the feedback loop to drive continuous improvement.
  • Report status of all projects in remit (risks, schedule, quality and budget) to manager.
  • Develop, refine and implement processes and policies for new construction practices, comparison and ultimately green lighting deployment and actualization.
  • Supporting the Wales Core Development Team teams [procurement, design, delivery and new site development] to establish and control project budgets, monitor and document design change on cost and schedule, and supporting the presentation & approval of key strategic decisions to the Executive team.
  • National and international travel will be required, especially regular travel to South Wales

Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • Construction and Project Management experience is preferred but not required.
  • Fluency in English. Proficiency in additional European languages is advantageous, but not required.
  • Strong IT skills; ability to use multiple communication tools and packages, Advanced Excel knowledge essential.
  • Skilled at solving problems and dealing with a variety of options with limited information.
  • Strong organization skills with the capacity to handle multiple projects simultaneously, work well under pressure, and to prioritize work effort, all with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to make effective presentations on general topics.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze complex business concepts and documents.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Flexible, adaptable and self-directed; able to work in a variety of circumstances; eg: remotely, while travelling, across multiple time zones, cross functionally, by project, etc.
  • Successful candidate must be a team player able to work with a variety of people, working towards an agreed development goal
