We have an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated Research Assistant to join our fantastic research team here the Jenner Institute, Nuffield Department of Medicine. This role will primarily involve research pertaining to the Malaria Vaccine Programme, but may offer support to other programmes within the Jenner Institute as required.

As a Research Assistant, you will report to the Principal Investigator/Programme Director, Dr. Ahmed Salman, and be a member of a research group with responsibility for the provision of research support for a research project funded by the Gates Foundation aiming for generating an improved second-generation Malaria vaccine, providing advice and guidance to research students where appropriate.

You will be responsible for managing the running of the Jenner Insectary, rearing mosquitoes, and producing malaria-infected mosquitoes for researchers within the Jenner Institute and external customers. You will be tasked with managing and performing in vivo experiments for the Jenner Institute investigators eg vaccinations, blood sampling, tissue sampling, and processing, malaria challenge experiments, and preparation of thin blood films. You will also be responsible for general laboratory management and administration for work related to the Insectary and Animal facility, including stock control of laboratory consumables.

To be successful in this role, you will hold a BSc degree in a relevant subject, (Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology), along with experience rearing mosquitoes and maintaining the smooth running of an Insectary (liaising with contractors, suppliers, and clients). You will have experience with in vivo experiments, and the ability to perform a variety of administration techniques eg intramuscular, intravenous, and intra-peritoneal. You will have sufficient specialist knowledge and experience in the discipline to work within established research programs, together with excellent communication skills, including the ability to write text that can be published, present data at conferences, and represent the research group at meetings, with the ability to manage own research and administrative activities.
