We're looking for someone to head up our accessibility agenda, with a focus on accessibility compliant systems and tooling across DWP Digital.

Your role is crucial. You will lead on making our systems and tooling accessible, so everyone has the right access to do their job, and so every DWP user can access the support they need.

You'll define and assure best practice while influencing, leading, building capability and mentoring others. Working with other Head of Roles to deliver a "joined-up" service to Digital functions, providing best practice guidance on ways of working and accessibility.

You'll empower our people to be at their best, define standards and make sure our Accessibility teams have the right tools and environment to deliver effectively.

You'll be an advocate at senior forums for accessibility, and a champion across government. You'll help us make decisions and build services that work for everyone.

Your accountabilities as Head of Role include the following key areas:

  • Community of Practice
  • Capability Building
  • Knowledge Management
  • Learning and Performance Management
  • Resourcing
  • Business Partnering

What skills, knowledge and experience will you need?

  • Significant knowledge of accessibility as a subject area
  • Passionate advocate of communities of practice - you can confidently articulate the value of them, as well as being experienced in building and leading self-sustaining professional communities
  • Excellent leadership and stakeholder management skills - you can identify and build relationships at all levels and can negotiate and influence at a senior level on issues and the development and enhancement of services, products & systems
  • Experience of designing and implementing a capability strategy to develop and enhance skills within a team/group/organisation
  • You can demonstrate creating a culture of keeping up to date with emerging trends within the profession and acting upon them
  • Experience in coaching, mentoring, peer reviews, providing a friendly ear and creating development opportunities
