This team comprises interaction designers, service designers, content designers, user researchers, and performance analysts, all dedicated to enhancing our services, which play a vital role in the UK economy. As a Senior Accessibility Specialist, you will be a leading expert in accessibility, with proven experience in advocating for users with diverse access and assisted digital needs.
Your responsibilities will include ensuring compliance with accessibility regulations and managing our accessibility design strategy. By collaborating with key stakeholders, you will foster a shared understanding of the legal requirements necessary to meet accessibility standards across both digital and non-digital user experiences. Engaging with a wide range of technical and non-technical stakeholders, you will ensure our services cater to the needs of all users.

Role Responsibilities
As a Senior Accessibility Specialist, you will be a key advocate for accessibility within Companies House. Your role will involve ensuring that accessibility considerations are integrated into our services, adhering to the following regulations:
- Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) Level AA
- Government Service Standard
- Equality Act 2010
- Public Sector Bodies (Website and Mobile Application) Accessibility Regulations
You will have the opportunity to contribute to our mission of delivering outstanding public services that are accessible to everyone.
In this role, you will:
- Ensure that both new and existing Companies House services comply with accessibility regulations for Public Sector Bodies.
- Maintain a comprehensive record of the current accessibility statuses of our services.
- Assist the Head of User-Centered Design, the Head of Product Design, and our Service Owners in prioritizing accessibility initiatives.
- Act as a digital accessibility expert, providing consultancy to both technical and non-technical colleagues to integrate accessibility throughout the service lifecycle.
- Collaborate with service teams to review accessibility audits and provide expert guidance as needed.
- Represent the community of users with access needs.
- Work with various teams to identify and resolve accessibility issues during all stages of the development cycle, offering solutions and support.
- Deliver relevant training, advice, and support to key technical roles, including service/interaction/content designers, user researchers, developers, and testers.
- Provide expert advice on the procurement of accessible internal systems and services.
- Create and nurture an accessibility community within Companies House.
- Explore opportunities for partnerships and networking to enhance our user base for accessibility testing.
- Contribute to the cross-government accessibility community.
Qualifications and Skills
We are seeking candidates with the following skills and experience, which will be evaluated during the selection process:
- Proven ability to advocate for and secure buy-in from senior stakeholders, influencing the prioritization of accessibility in our transformation roadmap.
- Experience collaborating with service owners, user researchers, interaction designers, content designers, service designers, developers, and testers to implement accessibility improvements successfully.
- Comprehensive knowledge of accessibility legislation, assistive technology, and best practices.
- Strong communication skills to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical colleagues.
- Capability to conduct in-house accessibility audits of both internal and external services and review service teams' actions and plans.
