Electronic Engineer/ Technician

Salary: £42,840 or (Senior) £53,818 per annum (dependent on entry level, skills and experience).

The ISIS neutron and muon source is a world leading research centre. At the heart of ISIS is a high power particle accelerator. The RF Group is responsible for the hardware necessary to accelerate the particle beam. The group also runs several test stands for accelerator research and developments as well as refurbishing, operating and developing high and low power RF sources. The group currently operates several solid state, as well as thermionic valve based systems along with analogue and digital 'low level' RF control.

Duties include:


• Use of small workshop / test laboratory.


• Refurbishment and operation of RF amplifiers, power supplies, cavities, electronic hardware.


• Fault-finding and maintenance supported by other technical leads.


• Assisting with the design, development, manufacture of RF and related equipment.


• Testing and installation of new equipment and systems.


• Procuring materials, components and spares.


• Participation in the ISIS on call system

Other key information about the role

We are looking for two Electronic Engineers/ Technicians to join either the Linac or Synchrotron section. There are two levels of entry that we appoint to depending on level of experience and skill set.

The role is a practical job, site based with participation in the ISIS on call pay system is required. You will provide assistance and input with all aspects of work being undertaken, as well as playing a vital role in carrying out essential support and maintenance activities

About you


• Qualification to minimum HNC/HND or equivalent (Electrical/Electronic/Physics Subjects)


• Knowledge of (band D) or experience of (band E) operating and maintaining Radio Frequency based systems.


• Broad range of electrical and electronic knowledge with practical experience


• Experience of (band D) or progressive experience (band E) read, understand and produce electrical/electronic schematic drawings, fault finding, testing, operating processes and systems.


• Practical experience using equipment and tools in a laboratory/workshop/industrial environment.
