Senior Commercial Development Manager at Matter

Do you want to help financial institutions in their sustainable transition? Matter develops ESG data and analytics solutions for ambitious institutional investors. We are looking for a Senior Commercial Development Manager to help asset managers, owners, wealth managers and consultants to drive capital in a more sustainable direction with our solutions.


Based in Copenhagen and London, Matter provides ESG and sustainability data, as well as intelligence solutions to the financial industry. We are a passionate team of ~35 social scientists, engineers, economists, and creatives that are looking to expand our commercial development team with an experienced ESG data specialist for a commercial role.


We imagine that you have previously worked in or with institutional investors, and that you have concrete experience from selling ESG data and solutions to capital markets. We expect that you have a proven ability to develop meaningful relations with clients in the industry, build pipeline, and drive sales processes to the end.


Your role in Matter

As a Senior Commercial Development Manager, you will be reporting to our Head of Commercial Development, while working collaboratively with management, marketing, research and product teams. Your office location is most likely London or Copenhagen.


As a member of the commercial team, you will help drive the execution of our commercial strategy, selling our unique product set to leading financial institutions. The ideal candidate is an autonomous team player with strong sales credentials within ESG data sales, and an established network in financial services. This position requires a strong hunting personality, a persistent appetite to get things done quickly and exceptional communication and sales skills. We will rely on your ability to act in a consultative capacity, identifying and delivering strategic value to clients in a fast-paced scale-up environment.


Our products are software solutions and datasets that require in-depth introductions to ESG professionals, training of end-users and integrations with engineering teams. As such, you will have responsibility for the presentation, sale and deployment of our products and building robust relationships with clients. As we are a dynamic and growing organisation, you will also be expected to take part in developing and strengthening our team and culture.


Your profile

You have solid experience within sales and business development has prepared you to take responsibility for driving client dialogues forward and establish client relationships.

You have the knowledge and capacity to understand the dynamics and intersection of financial markets and sustainability frameworks - ideally within the asset management industry. We imagine that you have:

  • Minimum three years of relevant professional experience in ESG data sales to Financial institutions (essential)
  • A proven track record of reaching full sales targets whilst selling to financial institutions/asset managers/asset owners (essential)
  • Experience with, and effective execution of, a solution-based strategic sales process (preferred)
  • Highly proficient at communicating in English
  • Proven ability to generate business opportunities through new business
  • Can turn complex insights into compelling stories and commercial models
  • Can drive commercial dialogues forward and establish trusted client relationships
  • Are naturally driven and motivated by incentives to deliver results
  • Experience in building and maintaining a pipeline of high-quality opportunities
  • An understanding of the ESG space and demand for ESG products, product type and fir for different customer segments (preferred)
  • Experienced user of CRM tools, such as, Salesforce, Hubspot and Upsales
  • The ability to thrive in a team where curiosity, drive, and willingness to roll sleeves up to get things done are everyday life (essential)
