Boston, United Kingdom United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust Full time

Reporting directly to the Clinical Lead for Intensive Care Medicine, you would be working as a Consultant within the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at either Lincoln County Hospital or Boston Pilgrim Hospital. The ICU operates on a 24/7 basis (365 days per year) and this will be inclusive of working over the bank holidays, Christmas and New Year period. The candidate could expect to practice up to 2 programmed activities (PA) of elective activity in another discipline subject to negotiation.

Main duties of the job

As a Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine, you will be working within a busy department as the 'go to' person for providing advanced critical care to the Patients that need us most. Alongside this, you will be supporting other teams and departments with your expertise whether that be verbally over the telephone or by responding to them in a different ward.

Whilst ensuring the health, safety and welfare of everyone within our working environment, you will need to be the person that can remain calm under pressure, make confident decisions and lead the team to ensure everyone works cohesively towards the shared objective of patient care.

More specifically, we are looking for well-trained Consultants who will positively and innovatively support the leadership and management team in not only maintaining the service delivery of ICU but improving it too.

In summary, this role will revolve around you having excellent communication skills to engage and work in partnership with other people, both internally and externally to make the Patient your number one priority. In addition, due to the nature of care being provided in the role, you will need to be caring, empathetic and have a professional manner to support the functions of ICU and display the behaviours expected within the Trust.

About us

Pilgrim Hospital is situated in beautiful countryside and serves the communities in the South Lincolnshire area. It provides all major specialties and a 24-hour major accident and emergency service. Boston and the surrounding area is home to an abundance of parks, green spaces, and nature reserves and is only a short drive away from Lincolnshire's peaceful coastline.

Lincoln is the main urban population centre in Lincolnshire and Lincoln County Hospital is the largest of the Trust's Hospital sites. It provides all major specialties and a 24-hour major accident and emergency service. It is best known for its magnificent medieval cathedral and castle, but is also home to the University of Lincoln and the new Lincoln Medical School. The Medical School, on the cities university campus, received its first intake of students in September 2019. The development of the Lincoln Medical School provides a new and exciting opportunity for the further development of both teaching and research interests for clinical staff.

The city is surrounded by open countryside with a wide variety of attractive villages within easy travel distances of the city centre and hospital. The city has good road links with Nottingham and the wider East Midlands and a regular rail service direct to London.

If you want to make a difference and be part of something new and exciting then we would love to hear from you so, what are you waiting for?
