United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust have a vacancy for a full time Consultant in General Anaesthesia. This Consultant post is based at Pilgrim Hospital however post-holders will be expected to operate flexibly across all hospital sites.

Any Consultant who is unable to work full time will be considered. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed and negotiated on an individual basis.

The appointee will take part in the general anaesthesia consultant on-call rota for emergency duties at Pilgrim Hospital and provide, on a reciprocal basis, emergency cover for colleagues during periods of absence.

He/she will be required to play an active part in the robust clinical governance programme in operation within the Department and to take part in regional and national audits and participate in service improvement. He/she will also be required to report all critical incidents and expected to attend regularly Clinical Audit, Critical Incident Reporting, Morbidity & Mortality and Anaesthetic Departmental Team meetings.

He/she will be expected to undertake clinical supervision of Foundation, Core or Specialty trainees including workplace assessment, feedback and communication with educational supervisors as appropriate.

The appointee will have continuing responsibility for patients in his / her care and for the proper functioning of the department. Involvement in research where appropriate is encouraged.

He/she will be encouraged to participate in management duties within the Department and the organisation.

Pilgrim Hospital is part of the United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust, which includes Grantham, Lincoln and Louth Hospitals. Pleasantly situated on the outskirts of Boston,

Pilgrim Hospital is a modern District General Hospital providing a full range of clinical specialities to a catchment population of 210,000. It includes diagnostic facilities of the highest standard and a full range of support services. It has a highly regarded education centre with modern and extensive IT facilities.

As a result of its forward looking and innovative strategies, Pilgrim has attracted investment which includes refurbishment of the Intensive Care Unit, the endoscopy suite and a new interventional radiology suite. It is a newly developed large and modern complex, which caters for most of the major specialties and has 369 beds.

Boston is the site for major vascular surgery for Lincolnshire. The hospital provides beds for general surgery, vascular surgery, urology, orthopaedic surgery, ENT, breast, ophthalmology, paediatrics, maxillo-facial surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology.

The hospital has an Accident and Emergency Department, a Medical Admissions Unit, a combined ITU/HDU with 9 funded beds.

The Trust is committed to the provision of a high quality, consultant led service. The Appointee will be expected, in conjunction with his/her colleagues, to provide a comprehensive Anaesthetic service to ULHT.

The postholder’s duties will be primarily atPilgrim Hospital, Boston, Lincolnshire, but it is a condition of the appointment that the postholder will be willing to work in any of the Trust’s locations or outreach district general hospital clinics.

**In addition he/she will be required to**:

- Undertake such other duties as may be identified to meet the needs of the service.
- Take part in 1:13 Consultant weekday night and weekend on call and to provide, on a reciprocal basis, emergency cover for colleagues during periods of absence.
- Have continuing responsibility for patients in his/her care and for the proper functioning of the department.
- Take part in team, department audits.

The post holder will be expected to partake in teaching activities for junior doctors in training and medical students.

The Job Plan and duties will be reviewed and updated on a regular basis in line with demands of the service.
