The Institute for Quantitative Investment Research (INQUIRE) is seeking an Executive Director to help run the organisation.


INQUIRE is a not-for-profit company, launched over 35 years ago, with the purpose of bridging the gap between academia and practitioners in the investment management industry. Our primary offering is an annual schedule of carefully curated conferences, webinars and evening events.


INQUIRE is run by a Council of volunteers, all senior investment professionals, supported by a treasurer, company secretary, an academic advisor, and a conference organiser. Over the years, the burden of work has become too much for a volunteer workforce, and with the announcement by our company secretary that she will stand down in October, we have decided to employ an Executive Director to take the lead in developing the organisation as well as enhancing and improving our operational effectiveness.


The Executive Director is a senior role at INQUIRE  and is expected to have a very significant influence on the direction of the Company. The multiple dimensions of the role make it ideally suited for a proactive individual with excellent interpersonal skills, who is comfortable engaging with senior Council members, in particular the Chairman and Treasurer. An outline of the responsibilities of the role is set out below.

  • Be the executive lead for all INQUIRE activities and administrative matters.
  • Facilitate the effort to win new members for INQUIRE.
  • Help organise our conferences and events. Take the lead on our e-communication (website and social media content).
  • Assume duties of company secretary and financial administrator (there will be a handover period from the current Company Secretary.)
  • Prepare the annual report and accounts with the treasurer

 

We expect the role to take on average 2 days a week.  In some periods – especially the summer – the workload will be substantially lower but will increase in the lead up to and following our conferences in Jan, March, and October and around the end of the calendar year when membership renewals and the preparation of the annual report and accounts occurs.   INQUIRE does not have premises; the Executive Director will work from their own premises. The hours for the role are flexible. The Executive Director is required to attend virtual and sometimes in-person Council meeting which can take place in the evening, and the organisations events which currently include webinars, full day seminars and evening events in London and residential seminars, mostly in the southeast.


Salary: Permanent part-time role with salary of £25,000 per annum.


Start date:  1 October 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter.


Reporting: The Executive Director will report to the Chairman.
