SLB Cambridge Research (SCR) is part of SLB’s global network of research and engineering centres. SCR is a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment with state-of-the-art research and computing facilities. We work on applied research projects in the physical sciences to meet the current and future challenges of the industry.


SLB Cambridge Research is a distinctive marquee-like structure dominating the High Cross site on the western outskirts of Cambridge, England. This spectacular building was completed in 1985 and the smaller second phase was opened in 1992. It has recently been classified as a Grade II listed building. Altogether, there are more than 930 m2; of laboratory space and offices for more than 100 scientists, technicians and domain experts.



Job Summary:


To accelerate SLB’s growth in the Energy Transition technology space, we are seeking a driven and creative scientist to work in low temperature electrolysis. We seek candidates with experience in ink formulation and processing into membrane electrode assemblies. Passion for science, teamwork and the desire to succeed are the core of our programme on Electrochemical Technologies. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team and take part in the development of electrochemical flow reactors.



Typical Responsibilities and Duties:


  • Development, assembly and characterisation of both alkaline electrolyte membrane and polymer electrolyte membrane electrolysers for electrochemical water splitting.
  • Apply innovative approaches to fluid formulation, processing and optimisation of membrane electrode assemblies.
  • Construction and evaluation of single cell prototypes
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant electrochemical energy devices scientific literature and technology developments.
  • Effectively communicate ideas, concepts and results to the team and stakeholders.
  • Engage and collaborate with SLB technical community.
  • Publish scientific papers, write patent applications, and attend conferences.



Qualifications:


  • PhD in a physical science (e.g. Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field)
  • Experience in synthesis, fabrication and characterisation of membrane electrode assemblies and strong expertise in ion exchange membranes.
  • Experience with degradation mechanisms related to electrochemical systems.
  • Experience with in-situ / operando electrochemical techniques is a plus
