About the Team
The Business, Trade and Culture Team (BTC) is a friendly team with a varied and high-profile remit. Within the team, the Business Engagement and Strategy branch encompasses the Business Engagement Team and Group Management Services. There is strong and supportive team culture that offers the successful candidate the opportunity to build strong networks across multiple work areas.
About the Job
The successful postholder will be required to help set an ambitious vision for the team using their understanding of policy and judgement to make decisions about where engagement activity should be prioritised as well as ensuring that this is timed to deliver maximum value for HM Treasury.
The role is varied and exciting and offers the right candidate opportunities to develop their stakeholder engagement skills and understanding of economic growth policy as well as applying this knowledge to target business engagement activity.
Key Accountabilities for this role include:
- Develop and deliver key workstreams of a new Business Engagement approach, changing the way that HM Treasury undertakes engagement to support policy development.
- Project manage a programme of work on building departmental capability to work with business, working closely with other central teams in HMT.
- Build and manage relationships with seniors, external affairs colleagues and policy teams across the department to deliver a step change in how the department works with business.
- Work closely with external stakeholders, in particular individual businesses and other government departments, to support HM Treasury’s programme of business engagement.
- Develop business case for record management system for business contacts, securing relevant funding approvals if needed.
The postholder will work alongside the Business Engagement Lead - Delivery role. The focus of this role will be to help enhance the Treasury’s organisation-wide strategic approach to business engagement.

The postholder will be required to make connections across the group, HM Treasury, other government departments and with industry. We are therefore seeking a pro-active and self-motivated individual with excellent interpersonal skills and confidence working with a wide range of stakeholders.
