HM Treasury values Business Engagement as an integral part of policy development proposals as well as being important in building strong relationships between business and industry.nThe Business, Trade and Culture Team (BTC) is a friendly team with a varied and high-profile remit, responsible for (i) Spending and strategy for the Department for Business and Trade (DBT), Department for Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) and the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), (ii) Supporting growth in the Creative Industries and culture, media and sport sectors, (iii) Supporting growth in Advanced Manufacturing, (iv) Inward investment policy, and (v)Business engagement, strategy and business support for the whole EGU group.

The Strategy and Coordination branch sits at the heart of the Enterprise and Growth Unit and encompasses the Business Engagement Team and Group Management Services. About the rolenAs Head of Business Engagement and Strategy, you will have the opportunity to help set an ambitious vision for the team using your political awareness and judgement to make decisions about where engagement activity should be prioritised as well as ensuring that this is timed to deliver maximum value.nYou will be required to make connections across the group, HM Treasury, other government departments and with industry. We are therefore seeking a pro-active and self-motivated individual with excellent interpersonal skills and confidence working with a wide range of collaborators.

Key accountabilitiesnDeveloping and delivering a Business Engagement Strategy for HM Treasury to drive meaningful engagement activity with businesses across the Enterprise & Growth Unit, as well as HM Treasury more widely.nLeading HMT’s day-to-day coordination work on Business Engagement alongside another E2 responsible for EGU’s Strategy and Engagement function, including the extensive engagement process that happens around fiscal events.nBuilding positive relationships with internal colleagues ensuring that the team is well connected to ongoing policy work within HM Treasury. This will influence how the organisation works closely with businesses and business representative organisations to shape policy design.nLeading relationships with external partners – including business representative organisations and a range of businesses - ensuring that they are able to participate in engagement activity as appropriate.nThis will include line management of one range E business engagement manager and leadership of a wider team including a further E, SEO and two HEOs.

You'll be politically astute with an enthusiasm to build your understanding of economic growth policy. A curiosity about the work of HM Treasury and the wider UK Government in helping build our future economy is a must. Finally, you'll be an experienced people leader with a passion for developing your team.
