TheBusiness, Trade and Culture Team (BTC) is a friendly team with avaried and high-profile remit, responsible for (i) Spending andstrategy for the Department for Business and Trade (DBT),Department for Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) and theCompetition and Markets Authority (CMA), (ii) Supporting growth inthe Creative Industries and culture, media and sport sectors, (iii)Supporting growth in Advanced Manufacturing, (iv) Inward investmentpolicy, and (v)Business engagement, strategy and business supportfor the whole EGU group.


The Strategy andCoordination branch sits at the heart of the Enterprise and GrowthUnit and encompasses the Business Engagement Team and GroupManagement Services. Aboutthe role

As Head of BusinessEngagement and Strategy, you will have the opportunity to help setan ambitious vision for the team using your political awareness andjudgement to make decisions about where engagement activity shouldbe prioritised as well as ensuring that this is timed to delivermaximum value.

You will be required to makeconnections across the group, HM Treasury, other governmentdepartments and with industry. We are therefore seeking apro-active and self-motivated individual with excellentinterpersonal skills and confidence working with a wide range ofcollaborators.


Keyaccountabilities

  1. Developingand delivering a Business Engagement Strategy for HM Treasury todrive meaningful engagement activity with businesses across theEnterprise & Growth Unit, as well as HM Treasury morewidely.
  2. Leading HMT’s day-to-day coordinationwork on Business Engagement alongside another E2 responsible forEGU’s Strategy and Engagement function, including the extensiveengagement process that happens around fiscalevents.
  3. Building positive relationships withinternal colleagues ensuring that the team is well connected toongoing policy work within HM Treasury. This will influence how theorganisation works closely with businesses and businessrepresentative organisations to shape policydesign.
  4. Leading relationships with externalpartners – including business representative organisations and arange of businesses - ensuring that they are able to participate inengagement activity as appropriate.
  5. This willinclude line management of one range E business engagement managerand leadership of a wider team including a further E, SEO and twoHEOs.
