Youth Justice Officer

Job role/responsibilities:
Take responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons in your care and those you meet.
Coordinate assessments to identify risks of reoffending, harm, and vulnerability among children and young people in the CJS using tools like Child View/Asset Plus and CAF.
Develop and deliver targeted interventions addressing the needs and underlying causes of youth offending.
Work closely with children, young people, and their parents/carers to ensure their views inform the assessment process and adapt the approach accordingly.
Engage children and young people with complex needs in a meaningful way that promotes compliance with their orders and builds a trusting professional relationship.
Manage a pre-court and statutory caseload, using YOS assessment tools to create 'SMART' intervention plans aimed at reducing reoffending and harm.
Supervise young people under bail support programs, ensuring assessments are current, progress is monitored, and appropriate enforcement action is taken for any breaches. Attend Youth and Crown Courts for bail assessments and YOS representation.
Maintain up-to-date records in line with national standards and local guidance, ensuring the YOS database reflects the risks and needs of the children and young people.Knowledge/experience required:
Direct experience of managing a diverse statutory caseload within the youth justice system.
Experience of assessing risk, analysing information from a range of sources and create plans to manage risk and safeguard children and young people and support them into education, employment, and training.
Relevant and considerable experience in a VOS case management role including the management of high risk and complex cases, with a proven record of responding to and managing statutory orders in line with national standards.
To have a record of continued professional development, attendance at training, areas of expertise and leading in particular fields.
Experience of leading areas relevant to youth offending, being an expert and imparting learning onto colleagues to develop staff knowledge and enhance best practice.
Experience of and a willingness to mentor and or support staff.Qualifications:
