Organisational background

The Friends of the Ulster Museum was set up in June 1970. It was established to support the museum by raising funds to help augment the museum’s collections and to offer members an opportunity to meet like-minded individuals in a social context.

Overall purpose of the post

To chair the Management Committee of the Friends of the Ulster Museum, give support to the President and Vice President and represent the Charity.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Act as a Trustee and ensure that the requirements of the Charities Commission are fully met.
  • Chair and fully participate in no less than 7 committee meetings and 1 AGM per annum.
  • Direct the management committee to run at least 7 profit making Events per annum.
  • Direct and oversee the day to day running of the Charity through the Administrator.
  • Encourage, support and expand the membership.
  • Through the Honorary Treasurer oversee all Financial Matters of the Friends and liaise fully with the Bank, HMRC, the Ulster Museum and other sponsors.
  • Ensure that members and employees are represented with fairness and are appropriately protected.
  • Liaise efficiently and effectively with all parties, especially with The Museum.
  • Ensure that the activities of the Friends are appropriately insured and protected.
