Work Pattern: Permanent, Full time, 37 hours per week

Who We Are

NHS Education for Scotland (NES) is the national health board with statutory responsibilities to effect sustainable change through workforce development, education and training across the health and social care system in Scotland, while working at UK level with partner organisations.

The Workforce Directorate works at a national level to support the delivery of NES's strategic plan and is a key partner to the delivery of Scottish Government priorities for the health and social care workforce. It also provides a comprehensive People and Organisational Development strategy and service for the people who work for NES and externally to NHSScotland in the recruitment of medical and dental trainees and other vocational trainee groups.

Organisational Development, Leadership and Learning (ODLL) department delivers a range of internal and external development and resources to support the wider Health and Social Care workforce and our workforce within NES. We work alongside colleagues in Human Resources and Quality Improvement to deliver our NES strategy and transformation route map.

The Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to lead the delivery of the Organisational Development (OD) Plan and programme which focuses on engaging, training and developing our internal 1200 plus workforce to drive the delivery of our vision and purpose. The OD plan is a key part of our culture change and corporate transformation journey. It sets out our commitment to developing and supporting our workforce.

What We Love to See

Heads of Programme need to offer a broad range of skills and experience, if you can offer some or all of these, we would love you to apply:

Senior leadership experience within the health and/or social care sector A clear understanding of the challenges facing the health workforce and what interventions could make a difference Master's degree or equivalent experience A proven track record of delivering culture change and developing workforce skills and capabilities in a complex environment The ability to confidently lead and manage a professional team to deliver large, complex pieces of work A track record of delivering multiple programmes of work on time and budget, and a strong focus on outcomes Proven ability, knowledge and skills in Learning and Organisational design, delivery and education Skills in organisational change and ensuring organisational readiness Excellent communication, interpersonal, negotiating, influencing and facilitation skills, with the ability to communicate sensitive information appropriately Experience of working with key health stakeholders e.g. Territorial and National Board representatives and the Scottish Government
