An Operations Manager with experience of working in a Project-led environment is sought by a Tyneside based Engineering company

As Operations Manager you will be responsible for overseeing daily activities and maximising productivity, particularly in project deliveries, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget and scope. Current projects are technical automation projects and vary from simple delivery projects to complex software/ hardware development projects and vary in duration from months to several years.

Main Responsibilities will include: -

  • All project deliveries and customer services, including support services
  • Ensuring operational activities remain on time and within budget
  • and manage schedules, process and the delivery of products and projects in line with customers' requirements and specifications
  • Project scope and change management
  • Project execution processes with a view to improving efficiencies and project profitability
  • Motivate, and support the team and manage staff levels, recruit, train and supervise staff and external resources
  • Manage relationships with clients and all stakeholders
  • The selection of, and relationship with, key suppliers and agree pricing
  • On-time customer invoicing and review and approve material purchasing
  • Root cause and drive corrective and preventative actions on any issues.
  • Drive continuous improvement in quality, delivery and cost.
  • Quality assurance in all aspects of operations
  • Manage and report on progress, problems and solutions
  • Manage risks and contingency plans

The ideal candidate will have experience of managing all aspects of complex engineering projects, including clients, resources, procurement / key suppliers, quality, safety, risks, budget, schedules and deliverables and be capable of solving problems and adapting to changing circumstances.

You will need a good engineering background ideally within Electrical Engineering or Industrial Controls & Automation and several years of relevant, broad engineering project / operations management .Good business and organisational skills with a focus on processes and people management are needed as are strong communication skills, with the ability to influence, negotiate and interface with a multidisciplinary team including R&D, sales and finance. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to drive root cause analysis, corrective and preventative actions and continuous improvement in all areas are essential.
