Wellbeing Project Lead

Plymouth, Plymouth, United Kingdom University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust Full time

We are looking for a motivated individual with excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills who is keen to work as part of our friendly team, bringing joy to the workplace.

Our Board are committed to the wellbeing of staff and improving both the working environment and support available and hence a new opportunity has arisen to deliver this agenda.

You will be working across all UHP departments to support them to develop effective health and wellbeing plans in line with our Work Well Strategy, increasing flexible working opportunities, increasing civility and respect, improving physical and mental health, and enabling staff to remain well and at work.

Interviews to take place on 27thJuly 2023

Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.

  • To support and coordinate wellbeing activity and deliver against an action plan for Work Well Strategy under the direction of the Head of Staff Wellbeing. This will include creating and supporting campaigns to enhance staff wellbeing.
  • To be responsible for reviewing current fasttrack arrangements and scoping of the provision and implementation of an accelerated access for staff to emergency Primary Care / GP and Dental services as well as priority access to diagnostic services and other clinical services.
  • To use Plymouth demographic intelligence to support the local workforce in areas of high deprivation and resulting low levels of underlying health, engaging with local health partners.
  • To explore the barriers to potential healthcare career applicants, specifically focusing on those relating to employment flexibility, and to collaboratively develop pragmatic, sustainable solutions.
  • To generate and facilitate trustwide engagement and conversation around the benefits and enablers of positive flexible working practices and wellbeing conversations.
  • To design and socialise flexible working and wellbeing frameworks through which good practice and lessons learned may be shared and implemented.
  • To support progress against the Year 3 People Delivery Plan objectives, specifically within the Looking After our People building block
To deputise for the Head of Staff Wellbeing & Wellbeing Services both internally and at regional meetings.

  • The Trust has an ambitious and testing time ahead to deliver on the Operating Plan and strategy, having staff who are supported to remain well and prioritised for help when not, is essential for successful delivery of the plan In order to respond to supporting wellbeing there is no single action that can change how well supported staff feel and there are many influencers to staff wellbeing which sit beyond employer sphere of control. However, bundles of practices and support are evidenced as the best methodology to provide a framework to help staff thrive rather than survive.
  • The Trust has also committed in the People Plan to the moral imperative of taking care of our UHP people and creating a sense of belonging, compassion and care. This work forms part of the Trust's ability to actualise its cultural plan to create a healthy organisation which enables delivery on its Operating Plan through a healthy and engaged workforce.
  • The retention and sustainability of our workforce is a key part of our People Plan. We are striving to respond to the needs of our staff by recognising that traditional working patterns may not enable the necessary life/work balance to ensure our people are well and can thrive at UHP. Whilst the Covid pandemic has facilitated great movement towards hybrid and remote working patterns and increased flexibility for some of the workforce, some of our clinical colleagues and managers still report difficulty accessing and offering/supporting flexible working options.
  • In line with the national people promises, we believe that no one working at UHP should have to sacrifice family, friends or interests for their work, and that predictability and flexibility are fundamental to helping our people live full and balanced lives. We also recognise that flexibility must be embedded within all of our working areas and available to our entire workforce if we are to truly respect the diversity and needs of those who work here.
  • The post holder will lead on the review, design and implementation of fast track diagnostic and treatment for staff, and flexible working practices, with a view to expanding our capability as a trust to keep people well and at work and also offer a range of flexible employment options. Key to achieving these objectives will be undertaking a programme of cultural engagement with managers and leaders across the organisation to influence a change in approach.
