Job Title: Quantum Sensing Scientist at AWE


AWE has an awesome opportunity for a skilled Quantum Sensing Scientist to join their Novel Detection Team. This role gives you the chance to enhance and utilize your quantum sensing expertise in a field of great national significance. You'll get to tackle various scientific and technical hurdles to measure, image, and detect concealed objects.

As part of this role, you'll specialize and take the lead in one or more Quantum Sensing (QS) areas to assist in visualizing objects beyond obstacles and at enhanced levels of precision. This role is a thrilling chance to contribute to and influence the expanding Quantum Capability at AWE.


Location: Aldermaston, West Berkshire, conveniently situated between Reading and Basingstoke with ample onsite parking. The job allows for a hybrid-working arrangement.


Salary: £36,640 to £46,000 (pending on qualifications, experience, and suitability).



The Role:

  • Become an expert in developing and implementing Quantum Sensors based on solids, vapours, or photons.
  • Work collaboratively with academics to advance Quantum Sensor capabilities, with possible travel opportunities for collaborations and conferences.
  • Engage in areas like non-destructive evaluation, explosive trials, and radiography.
  • Drive the selection and enhancement of QS techniques for bettering existing methods or introducing innovative approaches.
  • Collaborate with Quantum Technology teams to advocate the advantages of new QS to application teams and encourage their adoption.

Who Are We Looking For?


Requirements:

  • A master's degree in a scientific or STEM field with industry experience, or a PhD in a relevant discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

We are interested in candidates with expertise in areas like Optics, Experimental Procedure, Cryogenics, Stakeholder Management, and more. Specialist knowledge in Quantum mechanics, Atom interferometry, and other related fields is an added advantage.
