Electronics Engineer for Electric Propulsion

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of air-breathing electric propulsion technology at NewOrbit Space.

We are seeking a skilled Electronics Engineer to join our team of power and propulsion scientists and engineers in the development of our flagship satellite to ultra-low Earth Orbit (ULEO).

The successful candidate will design, build, and test electronic circuits for sensing, real-time monitoring, communicating, and controlling various subsystems of the air-breathing propulsion system from the ground-up.

Fundamental Requirements:

  • Excellent understanding of digital and analogue electronics, and control.
  • Advanced university degree in electronics or a relevant field.
  • Ability to design, develop, test, and troubleshoot circuits involving FPGAs and MCUs with minimal supervision.
  • Experience using electronics lab equipment (oscilloscopes, network analysers, etc.).
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and team-working skills.

Additional Requirements:

  • Research and development projects (PhD research is considered). Digital signal processing in noisy environments, preferably with FPGAs.
  • Implementing complex control algorithms using FPGAs, MCUs, etc.
  • Experience with PID control tuning.
  • PCB design, schematic, and layout (preferable using Altium).

About NewOrbit Space

NewOrbit is developing the first air-breathing electric propulsion (ABEP) system to be trialled in ULEO. Our technology has game-changing benefits to most satellite applications, but it hasn't been exploited yet due to the lack of a propulsion system to counteract drag from air particles present at these altitudes.

We are aiming to perform the first proof-of-concept mission next year.
