Access to Justice Organiser

London, Greater London, United Kingdom Migrants Organise Ltd Full time
Job description

The main purpose of the Access to Justice Organiser is to build the organising capacity and bring together a community of caseworkers, lawyers and migrant and refugee grassroots organisers - people who have been denied proper advice, representation and due process, to organise in solidarity and take
meaningful action to secure access to justice for all migrants and refugees, and ensure all people are treated with dignity and justice.

Migrants Organise is a grassroots community organising platform for dignity and justice.

The organisation was founded 30 years ago by migrants and refugees who needed advice and support to settle in London.

Working nationally, it is still led by people whose lives are defined, controlled, and adversely affected by immigration controls.

As a result, the Migrants Organise approach has always been a holistic combination of direct advice and support services and organising for systemic change.

We understand migrant justice organising both as a vision and practice
of power
and solidarity.

As a part of the Organising team, the Access to Justice Organiser will play an integral role in organising and mobilising members and supporters, specifically working with legal advice professionals and people denied access to justice, providing spaces, skills and opportunities for them to build power, common ground, trust and organise through actions, in solidarity on strategic, systemic change for dignity and justice.

The integration of professionals, campaigners, public service providers, and people currently experiencing the hostile system_ _in long-term organising is building on our work on access to healthcare, and it is what distinguishes the Migrants Organise approach from other models of campaigning and advocacy.

We are looking for an Organiser with skills, initiative and interest to work with the team in developing new ways of organising and the ability to facilitate power building, action and a long-term structural change.
