Care and Support Worker, L'Arche Kent

L'Arche Kent is the oldest of the 11 UK L'Arche communities, calling Canterbury a home since 1974.Our Community includes currently 26 people with learning disabilities, who we support at home, as well as volunteers, friends, neighbours and L'Arche assistants.
Some of the people we support choose to live in their own flat, others prefer to share their home with one or more housemates who have a learning disability and perhaps with L'Arche assistants as well.
ABOUT THE ROLE

Locality Leader, Deputy Locality Leader
Hours of work:
Full time - 40 hours per week, usually 8 hrs shifts either am or pm.
Salary:
£11.90 per hour
Place of work:
L'Arche Kent community house in Canterbury. (You may be required to work at any L'Arche Kent support service, determined by the needs of the community. This may include working within a residential care, supported living or activities setting).
Due to the support needs of the individuals supported, it is an occupational requirement for the applicant to be female.
Main purpose of the role:
- To support people with learning disabilities in a variety of settings in line with agreed support plans in all aspects of their daily lives.
- To promote and enable choice, independence, self determination to people with a learning disability through practical, physical and emotional support
- To contribute to create a sense of community as a place of mutuality and belonging.
Person Centred Support
You will:
- Provide high quality support to people with learning disabilities in line with L'Arche values, policies
Support of people with learning disabilities
- Assist with the personal hygiene, dress and health needs of individuals in their home
- Facilitate individuals to meet their leisure, social, practical and spiritual needs
- Encourage individuals to in their ongoing development of independence
Building an atmosphere of mutual relationships
You will:
- Foster positive relationships with both assistants and people with a learning disability
- Assist in celebrations and support spiritual life so that there is an atmosphere of welcome and friendship
