Medical Laboratory Support Worker

We are looking for a Medical Laboratory Support Worker to Join our Team.


Key tasks will include the receipt of samples from within the hospital and surrounding GP practices; sample preparation, request data entry and presentation for analysis as appropriate; to support the specific and technical and clerical duties alongside Biomedical Scientists as part of a team to facilitate the smooth running of the service.

This is a full time (37.5 hours per week), fixed term post. The hours are currently within a framework of including Weekend and Bank Holiday working.

Current shift systems are under review, and the successful applicant will be expected to work nights, weekends and Bank Holidays in the future.

Sustainability is integral to the Trust achieving the NHS Net Zero target. All staff are therefore actively encouraged and supported to implement new ways of working within their field of expertise.

Provide technical laboratory support work.

Prepare and process clinical specimens for diagnostic testing.

Accept and reject laboratory requests by reference to the Sample Acceptance policy.

Receipt of samples, sample preparation, request data entry and presentation for analysis as appropriate.


To observe all departmental, Trust, national and European Health & Safety regulations relevant to the service, ensuring attendance at the annual departmental H&S update.

Deal with reception and telephone queries from users outside of the department.
