The post is to investigate single cell and spatial transcriptomics in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and intestinal inflammation occurring after treatment with immune checkpoint inhibitors.

The work is a key strand of a major programme of work funded by a Wellcome Trust Discovery Award to the Powelllab.


The postholder will carry out research programmes harnessing single cell transcriptomics, including spatially-resolved platforms of mucosal immune and non-immune compartments.

The Research Associate will be expected to submit publications to refereed journals and to develop internal pipelines and support group members to carry out complex analyses.


Duties and responsibilities:


You will identify and develop suitable techniques, and new methodologies, for processing and analysing of data from patient samples or from existing datasets.

You are expected to ensure the validity and reliability of data at all times. You will write reports for submission to research sponsors, and present findings to colleagues and at conferences. You are expected to develop and submit publications to refereed journals and to provide guidance to staff and students.

Essential requirements:

You should have:

  • Practical experience within multiple research environments and first authored publication(s) in relevant and refereed journals
  • Experience of dealing with highdimensional datasets, including single cell workflows.
  • Practical and theoretical knowledge of immune mediated diseases, IBD and basic immunology.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computational biology approaches to analyse multiomics data as well as research methods and procedures to interpret transcriptomics experiments
